Demonstration of ITRI WAVE/DSRC Communication Unit (IWCU)

California PATH hosted ITRI from Taiwan
for a demonstration of WAVE/DSRC radio on October 15. In this event, ITRI demonstrated the functionalities of their IWCU units in illustrative vehicle-vehicle and vehicles-infrastructure communication scenarios.
The goals of this event were (1) to introduce ITRI's DSRC developments and capabilities and (2) to facilitate discussions of future collaboration between ITRI, PATH, and other interested parties. The event is supported by the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT), Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan, R.O.C. This event also represents a significant milestone in a multi-year national program, Next Generation Telematics Systems and Innovative Applications/Services Technologies, currently undertaken by DoIT/MOEA and ITRI.
The Information and Communications Research Laboratories of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH) Program of the University of California, Berkeley, recognizes the mutual value of research cooperation in developing advanced wireless communication technologies for intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Specifically, to promote the advancements of Telematics Services and intelligent vehicles through the concept of cooperative infrastructure and vehicles, the two parties intend to collaborate, through academic exchange, knowledge sharing and contractual arrangement.
The partnership is built upon the strong foundation of reputation and expertise possessed by the two individual institutions. PATH has extensive experience in applied research on developing and implementing prototypes and demonstrations for various transportation areas with long-term working relationships with many governmental agencies and other international institutions. ITRI is internally renowned for its innovations of product developments with close liaison to the leading-edge high-tech players in Taiwan and Asia.
