PeMS Is In the News!
Drivers who rely on radio traffic reports may soon have an easier way to navigate the
dreaded freeway commute. A UC Berkeley professor and a team of UC students have come up
with a new way for drivers to get real-time information regarding traffic congestion,
alternate routes, and travel times via the Internet or a cellular phone.
Pravin Varaiya, Cal professor of
computer science and electrical engineering, recently unveiled the Freeway Performance
Evaluation Monitoring System, or PeMS.
