Summary

This project develops performance-based specifications for EDAPTS. To get these specifications, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), non-ITS systems, and industry systems will all be measured. EDAPTS and its design specifications will be reviewed and a list of EDAPTS elements assembled. The relationship between EDAPTS and Transit Communications Interface Profiles and national ITS architecture will be established and, from that, a detailed list of metrics specific to EDAPTS will be created. The final deliverable of this research is a performance-based specification for EDAPTS components in a handbook with a companion web-based interactive database, aimed at future EDAPTS integrators and transit planners for configuration of an EDAPTS system.

This research builds on the foundation established by California Advanced Public Transit Systems test bed at Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The APTS Test Bed will compliment the California Integrated Test Bed, comprised of UCI's ATMS Test Bed and Berkeley's Highway Laboratory.
