The research proposal seeks to advance a prototype for an automated steering system on buses to a functional system for public use. Possible work would include the designing and implementing of modifications to key hardware and software components and subsystems to improve reliability and robustness.
Once modified, this system will be tested at the Richmond Field Station to provide hours of operation to check durability and reliability. Demonstrations will then be provided to transit agency representatives to increase awareness of the technology’s capabilities and its state of development.
Six tasks constitute the project: 1) develop field testing requirements and plan; 2) enhance the safety integrity of the magnetic guidance technology; 3) develop the testing site; 4) conduct tests and evaluation; 5) analyze and evaluate the data; 6) complete a final report.
